Matt is Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel at Benjamin F. Edwards. In his role as the leader of the Law and Legal Services division, he works with in-house attorneys and legal professionals providing legal and regulatory advice and guidance to the company, its affiliated business entities and the various shared support and service areas of the firm.

Matt joined Benjamin F. Edwards in 2022. He began his legal career in private practice in St. Louis in 1993. Matt started at national brokerage firm A.G. Edwards as counsel in early 2001 and held a variety of roles in the A.G. Edwards legal department through 2008. His previous professional experience includes serving as Managing Counsel for brokerages Wells Fargo Advisors and as Associate General Counsel for Scottrade. Matt became lead counsel for Commerce Trust Company and the Chief Legal Officer of Commerce Investment Advisors in 2017, providing legal advice to private and institutional trust relationships as well as the independent Brokerage, Mutual Fund and Investment Company affiliates of Commerce Bank.

Matt graduated from Marquette University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and also graduated from St. Louis University School of Law. He previously held the New York Stock Exchange Series 14 license and is currently registered as a FINRA Series 24 Securities Principal. Matt also has 15 years of experience as a FINRA industry arbitrator.

Outside of the workday, he enjoys spending  time with his wife, Ann, their adult children, and friends. Matt is a lifelong resident of St. Louis/St. Louis County, but enjoys traveling everywhere and spending time outdoors. As a sports enthusiast, Matt enjoys watching live and televised sporting events in every season from college basketball to the UEFA Champions League.
