Three Things to Watch
- Hundreds of domestic companies will report earnings this week, with both Wednesday and Thursday particularly active. Tesla, Alphabet, Verizon, IBM and Boeing are some of the highlights. Forward guidance—particularly as it relates to the impact of tariffs—will be the focus.
- White House-related headlines will remain in focus. Trade policy, U.S. Federal Reserve independence and leadership, and a potential reshaping of the State Department all have been in the news over the weekend, with varying degrees of detail.
- On the data front, the markets will get looks at the March leading indicator index (expected to be negative), durable goods orders (+1.5%), new and existing home sales (stable), and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment, which has sharply deteriorated in recent months.
